Quick inspection for authority agents

A traffic light in 2 or 3 minutes at a roadside control: what it reads, what each color means and what it does not claim.

Reviewed by Daniel Morales, founder of Reprorace SL, on

Where: Diagnostics › More tests › Service functions › Channel “v2 procedures (beta)” › “One-click full diagnosis” › “Quick inspection (authority agents)”

Important: Only people with a current authority-agent authorization (and the Hub administrator) see it. It is read only: it writes nothing to the vehicle and reads no PIN, keys or secrets. Every use is entered in the usage log.

  1. Connect the unit to the diagnostic connector, switch the ignition on and choose “Quick inspection (authority agents)”.
  2. Choose the unit and type the vehicle details the screen asks for.
  3. Press the big button “Start the quick inspection” and wait: nothing else needs to be touched.
  4. Read the overall color and the reasons. Each reason says what was seen and which source the rule rests on.
  5. If needed, press “Save the reads in the case file” to add them to an open case file, which already has its legal basis.
LightWhat it means
GreenNothing worth noting was found in what could be read.
AmberThere are points worth a look, or that could not be checked.
RedThere are findings that call for an immediate review by a person.

What it checks:

  • That the vehicle identification number (VIN) is the same in every module.
  • That the mileage matches between modules, within a tolerance the report states.
  • Whether a part, a software or the programming fingerprint changed compared with an earlier reading of the same vehicle in this session.
  • Whether a module asks for its warning lamp: for airbag, brakes and steering it is red.
  • Emissions: the engine lamp, readiness checks not completed and faults of the system that cleans the exhaust gases. It only detects them; it changes nothing.
  • Whether the fault codes were cleared recently, and the programming fingerprints to note down (they do not change the color).

Important: The traffic light is an aid, not a conclusion. A finding does not by itself prove tampering or an offence: there are legitimate changes (repairs, updates, replaced parts). The decision always rests with the person inspecting and the competent authority.

If a point could not be read (for example on a vehicle without a CAN connection), the traffic light says so and that point does not turn it green.

This is forensic mode and it only reads. Repairing and adapting is another mode, diagnosis, with its own service functions. More in “Forensic mode and diagnosis mode”.
