PassThru on Mac, Linux and iOS
Use the ECO-LITE TOOL or the ECOPRO Gen4 as a PassThru interface from a Mac, a Linux PC, a Windows on ARM PC or an iPhone app.

The ECO-LITE TOOL and the ECOPRO Gen4 talk to the computer over Wi-Fi (the local network) or USB, with the same pairing and the same encryption on every system. Pairing a computer or a phone always requires pressing the device's button.
1. What is available for each system
| System | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Windows (32-bit and 64-bit, including Windows on ARM) | J2534 interface (API 04.04 and 05.00) for 32-bit and 64-bit programs, D-PDU API and RP1210. Wi-Fi or USB. |
| macOS (Apple silicon and Intel) | J2534 library (API 04.04 and 05.00) and D-PDU API. This Mac's key is kept in its keychain. Wi-Fi or USB. |
| Linux | J2534 library (API 04.04 and 05.00), D-PDU API and a bridge to use can-utils and python-can. Wi-Fi or USB. |
| iPhone and iPad | A kit that lets apps talk to the device. Wi-Fi only. |
Important: Vehicle manufacturers' programs (ODIS, Xentry, FDRS and similar) only exist for Windows. On a Mac, install them in a Windows virtual machine (Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion or UTM).
2. Mac with Windows in a virtual machine
- Install Windows 11 in the virtual machine. On a Mac with Apple silicon it is Windows on ARM: the Windows installer detects it and sets up the interface for 32-bit and 64-bit programs, which Windows runs under emulation.
- Set the virtual machine's network to shared or bridged mode so that it reaches the network the device is on.
- Arm PassThru mode on the device (hold its button for 2 to 5 seconds) and pair Windows with “ecolite-pt-config pair TOOL tcp:<device IP>”. When asked, press the device's button.
- In the diagnostic program, choose the Diaglana interface with your device's name (ECO-LITE TOOL or ECOPRO Gen4). With several devices, run “ecolite-pt-config register” once as administrator: each one appears with its serial number, and “ecolite-pt-config prefer” followed by its name chooses the one opened by default.
Tip: Over Wi-Fi you don't need to pass USB through to the virtual machine. For ECU programming USB is more stable: connect it to the virtual machine from its USB devices menu.
3. Mac and Linux without a virtual machine
- Install the package: on a Mac, the .pkg installer; on Linux, the .deb (“sudo apt install ./” followed by the file name) or the .tar.gz with “sudo ./instalar.sh”.
- Arm PassThru mode on the device and pair with “ecolite-pt-config pair TOOL tcp:<device IP>” (over USB, “serial:” followed by the port). Press the device's button when asked. On Linux this computer's key is kept in your session keyring or, on a server, in a file only your user can read.
- Programs that support J2534 on Mac or Linux find the device in the /etc/j2534 folder, and D-PDU API programs in /etc/pdu_api_root.xml. Open-source tools that look for it in your ~/.passthru folder (such as ecu_diagnostics) see it after you run “ecolite-pt-config register” once with the library path.
4. can-utils and python-can on Linux
- With the device armed and paired, run “ecolite-pt-slcan --link /tmp/ecolite-slcan”.
- Create the CAN network interface: “sudo slcand -o -s6 $(readlink /tmp/ecolite-slcan) slcan0” (s6 is 500 kbit/s) and “sudo ip link set slcan0 up”.
- Use slcan0 like any CAN interface: “candump slcan0”, “cansend slcan0 7DF#0201000000000000” or python-can with channel slcan0.
5. iPhone and iPad apps
- The developer kit is a Swift package with no external dependencies: pairing, opening the device, CAN, filters and ISO 15765 (UDS and OBD).
- Pairing requires pressing the device's button: no app can pair without someone touching the device.
- The app must request local network permission: iOS asks the first time it looks for the device.
- The iPhone's key stays in its keychain, on that device only: it is not copied to backups or to another phone.
Tip: This is a technical feature in testing and does not replace an approved diagnostic tool. Ask support for the Mac and Linux packages or the iOS kit.
