CAN captures
Record what travels on a vehicle CAN bus to analyze it.
Where: Remote sessions › Diagnostics › CAN captures
ECO-LITE listens to a CAN bus without writing to it and records what is said: what the diagnostic tool sends and what each control unit answers.
- In “New capture”, choose the unit, the bus (CAN A or CAN B), the speed or “Detect the speed”, and the duration, from 1 to 3600 seconds.
- If you need to, open “Advanced options”: diagnostic traffic only, start at the first diagnostic request, how much to keep before, frames-per-second limit and identifier filters.
- Press “Start the capture”. The list shows its state and updates by itself while the unit listens.
- When it ends, press “View”: summary, frames by identifier, request/response pairs and the frames in parts.
- Download the capture as candump or CSV.
- The capture ends when the duration is reached, when you press “Stop” or if the memory fills up.
- Filters are hexadecimal identifiers separated by commas, such as 7E0, 7E8. Up to 3 digits is an 11-bit identifier; more is 29-bit. At most 8 per list.
Tip: The unit only listens: a capture changes nothing in the vehicle.
Retention: the frames of each capture are kept for one year (or the period your platform sets) and then deleted; the capture's summary stays. Download it before then if you need it longer.
