Non-payment: what happens if a subscription charge is not paid
Due dates, suspension of access and how it is restored when you pay.
Where: Commerce › Subscriptions › Subscription charges
Each subscription period is charged when it starts and falls due after 7 days. Until then you see the charge as "Pending" with "Pay online" (if your seller collects online) or with the reference to pay by transfer.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| When it falls due unpaid | The charge becomes "Overdue", the subscription "Payment due" and you get a notice. |
| 7 days after the due date | The plan's access is suspended: the vehicle API and the protocol licenses stop working. You see "Access suspended for non-payment". |
| 30 days after the due date, or at the end of the period if that comes first | The subscription ends for non-payment. |
Those are the default terms. A seller can set its own in Commerce › Subscriptions › Collection terms: days to pay (1-30), days to suspension (0-30) and days to end (7-90). One person proposes a change and another with the same permission approves it. One person, with the second factor, is enough if they are the only one in the organization with that permission or if the change only gives more days. Days to pay apply to new charges; the other two, to every overdue charge.
When all overdue charges are paid, the subscription is active again and access is restored at once, with a notice. A subscription that has already ended is not reactivated: the debt for closed periods stays open and a new subscription is needed.
If you sell plans, you see the same in each subscription and receive the notices "A plan's access is suspended for non-payment" and "A plan's access is restored on payment".
Tip: If you have a problem with a payment, talk to whoever sells you the plan before the due date: they can record a payment received another way or waive the charge.
