Codes and warning lights
Why does the trouble code come back after I clear it?
Because clearing the code does not fix the cause: it only empties the memory and turns the light off. As soon as the ECU runs its test again and finds the same fault, it stores the code again, sometimes within minutes and sometimes after several days of driving.

What does it mean if it comes back right away?
If the code reappears as soon as you start the engine, the fault is there all the time: a disconnected sensor, an open circuit or a part that does not work.
If it takes days, the fault depends on specific conditions, such as temperature, load or fuel level, and the freeze frame data helps you find them.
Can it come back even after replacing the part?
Yes. Many codes say which test failed, not which part is bad: an oxygen sensor code can come from an exhaust leak, and a catalytic converter code from misfires.
Replacing parts by the name of the code gets expensive. Check the wiring, the intake for leaks and the live data first.
Is it bad to clear codes over and over?
Clearing does not harm the car, but it hides the information the shop needs and leaves the readiness monitors incomplete.
Some faults, such as misfires or overheating, can damage the engine or the catalytic converter if you keep driving: if they come back, repair before going on.
General guidance only: every manufacturer and model has its own details. Always follow your vehicle's manual and, if in doubt, ask a workshop.

The ECO-LITE keeps every occurrence of a code in your account with the data from that moment, so your shop can see how often it returns and under which conditions, always with your permission.

Frequently asked questions
How many times can I clear a code?
As many as you like, but it is pointless if you do not fix the cause.
Can a history code come back too?
Yes: if the fault repeats, it becomes pending or confirmed again.
Is disconnecting the battery better than clearing with a scanner?
No: it does the same and can also erase the car's adaptations and memories.
