Codes and warning lights
Why is the warning light on when the scan tool shows no codes?
Almost always because the scanner only asks the engine ECU for generic codes, and the warning comes from another module or is a manufacturer-specific code. P0000 is not a fault: some scanners show it to say that they found none.

Which light is on, exactly?
The check engine light is the only one that requires a generic OBD code to be stored. ABS, airbag, transmission, steering or service lights depend on other modules that a basic OBD reader cannot reach.
Check the symbol in the owner's manual: many no-code questions are really about a light from another system.
Why can a cheap reader not see the code?
Basic readers only read the generic emissions part. Manufacturer codes, codes from other modules and those stored over UDS need a tool that speaks each brand's protocols.
The connection can fail too: a reader that cannot communicate sometimes shows an empty list instead of an error.
Can the light be on without a fault?
There are rare cases: a service reminder mistaken for the check engine light, a module that has lost communication or a fault in the instrument cluster itself. With the check engine light really on, there is almost always a code somewhere.
If the car runs badly, loses power or the light flashes, do not blame the reader: have a shop check it with full diagnostic equipment.
General guidance only: every manufacturer and model has its own details. Always follow your vehicle's manual and, if in doubt, ask a workshop.

The ECO-LITE asks the engine ECU and the other modules that answer through the port, using each brand's protocols, and your shop can review them remotely with your permission.

Frequently asked questions
What does P0000 mean?
That no codes are stored; it is not a real trouble code.
Does a free app read everything?
Usually not: most only read the engine's generic codes.
Does clearing with a generic reader turn off another system's light?
No: a generic reader only clears the engine's emissions codes.
